Doyeon Kim

Percussionist Doyeon Kim has been admitted to New England Conservatory as a classical percussion major B.M. student and studies with Mattew Mckay who is joining BSO percussionist.

A native of Busan, Korean, Doyeon began playing percussion at the age of 13, though her musical training began with the piano and violin at the age of 8. At the age of 14, she performed with the Busan Symphony Orchestra at the youngest age, and at the age of 16, was selected as the youngest young artist with the position of Kumho Young Artist, which is given only to the highest-level performers responsible for the future of the world in South Korea, and performed at the Kumho Foundation Art Hall, gave her a solo recital at the same year. She won 1st prize at the Seoul National University Music Competition, Korea's top competition, 3rd prize at the Solo & Ensemble Competition held by the World Percussion Association in 2019 (PASIC), Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Percussion Competition in 2020, won prized at the Great Plains International Marimba Competition in 2022. At that time, she was also awarded along with the New Music Best Performance Award. She also participates in some summer festivals, such as the National Orchestral Institute and Percussion based on Summer Festivals.

Doyeon has always been passionate about contemporary music with new attempts since 2019. She played the premiere pieces of renowned composers such as Steve Leigh, George Crumbs, Carlos Simon, Andy Akiho and Colin Currie. And then, she commissioned some pieces to the USA based composers to build a variety of new music careers. She also passionately passes on her musical inspiration to the next generation through coaching, private lessons, and numerous performances with the NEC preparatory school orchestra and diverse communities.
